Dell PowerEdge Memory

Dell's Poweredge servers are incredibly powerful, and can handle any demands your company place on them, big or small. Small businesses profit from their power and reliability, while large companies will also enjoy their speed even when being used by a large number of users. The Poweredge server series continues to evolve with each new model, but older servers are still seeing plenty of action today. If your Poweredge server is showing signs of age but you're not ready to upgrade you can still get some amazing mileage out of it.

Older servers like the Poweredge going back as far as the Poweredge 300 can still see good use today with smaller companies if they are properly maintained and kept clean of viruses. These servers are better for companies just starting out but you can still turn them into mini-powerhouses with some upgrades, and you should start with the memory. System memory is the first place where a computer shows signs of age.

Many Poweredge servers have memory options available that were not pre-loaded. Newer 256 MB modules can easily work in older servers. Check the compatibility of your server with memory modules you are interested in. You can either work with Dell's primary website to find compatible cards or use a third party dealer to pick right from their website.

If you are still interested in further upgrades the next stage would be to upgrade your motherboard. The motherboard will need a new processor since the old one might not fit new motherboard designs. If you do buy a new motherboard, buy a motherboard that features more memory slots so you can buy several modules at once. Also, get a bigger faster hard drive to decrease load times and sluggish performance.
