Digital Memory

Digital memory is used primarily in smaller devices or as supplemental memory for larger systems. Digital memory is often used on flash cards for digital cameras. You can also find these cards being used coupled with a USB connection for a quick memory boost. USB memory is compatible with any computer that has the proper USB ports.

Connecting a digital memory card through your USB port gives you system a little boost when you are using a lot of applications at once. These tiny cards need to be installed first, but that process usually takes only a few minutes. You can then connect or disconnect your additional memory as you need, or when you plan on using different peripherals and need a free USB port.

These memory cards are very affordable because there are so many available. Any USB enabled computer can use one of these cards, so there are plenty of different designs available. Some even allow you to store programs or documents on them for transfer to other computers. This can really save you from having to burn a few documents to a disk, and wasting the additional space.

Your digital camera might need a memory boost if you plan on taking a lot of pictures. This is especially true if you are traveling and want to have plenty of storage space for a lot of pictures. You can upload your pictures to your laptop computer periodically, or you can use your digital memory to store them until you get back home. A 128 MB flash memory card is sold for about $50 from independent retailers.
